No, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is a standalone game and will not require Half-Life.

1.10 Will Counter-Strike owners be able to upgrade to Condition Zero?
There will be a several free patches for Counter-Strike owners that will include some of Condition Zero's content, such as the new weapons, the updated player models and the new high quality audio files. However, to experience Condition Zero's single player mode, the new high-detail weapon models and the updated effects, Counter-Strike players will have to buy Condition Zero.

 The Game - Single Player


2.1 How many single player missions will there be?
Condition Zero will feature over 20 missions, each consisting of three to four maps. Each of these missions is self-contained, with its own storyline and a definite beginning and end.

2.2 What kinds of scenarios will there be?
The game will feature a multitude of different scenarios. Some of them will be stealth missions, while others are all about action. Most of the scenario types, such as escorting VIPs and rescuing hostages, are straight from Counter-Strike, but Ritual will be throwing several original missions into the mix.

2.3 Will it be possible to purchase weapons and equipment during the missions?

No, the player will start out with a preset number of weapons and equipment. It will, however, be possible to pick up weapons dropped by enemies.

2.4 Will Condition Zero introduce any new items or weapons?
Yes, there will be several new pieces of equipment in the game, including a blowtorch, a fiber-optic camera, and radio-controlled bombs.

While radio-controlled bombs are self-explanatory, the blowtorch can be used to cut through metal doors. Players will be able to use the fiber-optic camera to peek around corners in order to see what dangers lie ahead.

Condition Zero will also introduce ten new weapons, including the FAMAS and Galil rifles, the riot shield and the LAW rocket laucher.

2.5 Will it be possible to play as terrorists?

No. Players will not be able to choose a side in single player and will only be allowed to be counter-terrorists.

 The Game - Multiplayer


3.1 Will there be any new multiplayer maps?
Yes, Condition Zero will ship with ten original multiplayer maps.

3.2 Will the new weapons and items be available in multiplayer?

Most of the new equipment will be exclusive to the single playe side of things. The following pieces of equipment have been confirmed to be available in multiplayer:

3.3 Will it be possible to play offline against bots?

Yes, the game will offer the option to play Counter-Strike multiplayer against bots (computer controlled opponents).

3.4 Will Condition Zero and "normal" Counter-Strike be compatible?

Valve and Ritual are making sure that Condition Zero and Counter-Strike will be fully compatible. Version 1.6 of Counter-Strike includes the new user interface and three of the weapons designed for Condition Zero. Subsequent version of CS will add more of Condition Zero's content.

However, only Condition Zero owners will be able to experience the game's high-detail weapon and player models, the new texture sets, the updated explosions and special effects, as well as the new high-quality audio files.

4.1 What engine does Counter-Strike: Condition Zero utilize?
Counter-Strike: Condition Zero utilizes a modified version of the Half-Life engine, which in turn was based on Quake 1 technology.

4.2 Will Condition Zero feature updated assets, such as more detailed player and weapon models?
Yes, Ritual's art department is updating virtually every model featured in Counter-Strike for Condition Zero. The new player models will feature some 66% more polygons than those found in CS, and they will make it easier to disinguish friend from foe.

Additionally, the game will feature new explosion effects, and other added eye candy, such as volumetric smoke and specular lighting.

 Editing


5.1 What level editor is Ritual using to create maps for Condition Zero?
Instead of WorldCraft, Ritual is using a customized version of QERadiant. This editior will be released to the public shortly after the game ships.

Dedicated WorldCraft fans will of course be able to use that editor for Condition Zero.
